Art Club

This organization serves both the individual student as well as the entire school community. All students are welcomed and invited to join this group in various capacities. The members of the Art club may plan professional portfolios, explore career opportunities, paint a mural in the school building or assist in the design of the set for the school productions.

Band / Marching Unit

The Archbishop Wood Marching Unit and Concert band are among the best in the area, having been named champions in the United States Scholastic Band Association. The Marching Unit is a focal point of school spirit, leading the way at Pep Rallies, Football Games and Parades. The Marching Unit keeps busy throughout the year from the Fall Football and Parade season. The Concert Band performs at the annual Spring Concert as well as special events throughout the school year. Other components of the Music Program are the Indoor Color Guard, the Indoor Percussion Line and the Show Band.

Indoor Color Guard

The Indoor Color Guard combines Interpretive dance movement with equipment work using flags, sabers and rifles on an indoor gym floor accompanied by recorded music. The Color Guard competes in the TIDA.

Indoor Percussion Line

The Indoor Percussion Line combines percussion instrumentation with marching drill in an indoor gym. This unit competes from February to May and is a member of the Tournament Indoor Association.

Show Band

The Show Band provides musical accompaniment for the two Theater Productions each school year.

Chess Club

The Chess Club is for students who enjoy the one on one competition of a strategy oriented game. The club meets after school one or more days a week. All students are welcome to participate at every skill level.

French Club

The goals of the French club are to give members a deeper understanding of French culture, to combine work and pleasure so as to experience what has been learned and to share with each other the ideas gained.

Literary Magazine

The Literary Magazine is another forum for students to express themselves through the written word. These students produce a magazine that contains poems, short stories and art to be shared with the entire school community. Students who enjoy sharing their work will be a welcomed addition to this group.

Mathletes

The Mathletes are a group of talented Juniors and Seniors who compete against teams from other High Schools in the Archdiocese, solving difficult mathematical problems. The competition culminates in a Divisional Championship and an All Catholic competition. This activity continues throughout the school year. If you need help with math, go to the mathletes website.

Mock Trial Team

The Mock Trial Team is a new club at Archbishop Wood High School. This club is for students who are interested in law. The team prepares actual legal briefs to be presented at both the Montgomery County and Bucks County Courthouses. The members of the team assume the roles of Judge, Prosecutor and Defense Attorney as they present their case against teams from area schools.

Music Ministry

The gift of music always adds to the beauty of a religious celebration. Members of the Liturgical Music group lead the school community in song during school liturgies. The group also gathers to sing at some Archdiocesan celebrations. The final celebration of the year is the Baccalaureate Liturgy. The group gathers to sing at some Archdiocesan celebrations. National Honor Society

Membership in the NHS is an honor bestowed upon a student in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. Selection for membership is based upon outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service. Once selected, these members must continue to demonstrate these qualities within the school and local community. The projects of the NHS include a tutoring program, participation in “Daffodil Day” and the Donate a Lunch Drive. New members of the National Honor Society are inducted once a year.

Newspaper

The School newspaper provides its staff members with the experience in many facets of journalism which include interviewing, reporting, rewriting, copy reading, editing, typing, photography and page layout. A faculty moderator and student editor oversee this yearlong activity.

Office Aides

Volunteering as an Office Aide is a great opportunity to learn about the business side of education. Please apply at the office where you would like to help.

Performing Arts / Theatre Troupe

Actors, singers and dancers display their talents and energy in school sponsored theatrical productions. The Cast forms the nucleus for the annual Children’s theater and a Broadway Show. The members of the Theater Troupe are also exposed to many other talented young men and women throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. These students receive the well deserved respect of the entire school community for their untiring efforts to entertain those in the auditorium.

Prom Committees

Interested in helping to plan your Junior or Senior Prom? Stop by the Activities Office and ask to jion the Prom Committee.

Science / Health Careers Club

This club enables students to become more aware of the many career choices available in the health field. Through guest speakers and field trips, students learn about nursing, medical records, veterinary medicine, research and physical therapy. If one of these areas are of interest to a student, this club will be a rewarding and fun experience.

Spanish Club

This club offers students an opportunity to expand their appreciation of Hispanic Culture outside the classroom. Guest speakers, projects, games and parties highlight the monthly meetings.

Spirit Club

The Spirit Club is devoted to raising school spirit by creating banners, posters and decorations to be displayed throughout the school. This group puts into action ideas to bring spirit to school events.

Stage Crew

The Stage Crew are the true unsung stars of all of the theater productions. Set designers, light and sound technicians, ground, prop and curtain crews really make the show and all school events possible.

Student Council

The purpose of the Student Council is two-fold, to promote all student activities, thereby promoting school spirit and unity; and to serve the school and community. The officers and representatives of the Student Council are elected by the students with the approval of the administration. These elected students represent the entire student body, presenting suggestions and concerns to the administration.

TV Crew / Student Anchors

The director of Television Services coordinates all phases of the school’s closed circuit television network and works with the staff to implement its use in the curriculum.

Each morning the news of the day, upcoming events and sports results are broadcast to the school by student reporters. Guest appearances are made by members of other clubs and teams. Students use this time on the TV to promote their activity or sporting event.

Many of the school events are covered by the Television Crew to broadcast a program live throughout the school or to be shown at a later time. Television Services employs a technical crew of students to handle the video and audio controls and to operate the studio camera, as well as a anchor staff to report school news. These crew members are selected each Spring from among academically eligible students who apply for the positions.

World Languange Honor Societies

The World Language National Honor Societies are open to those students in levels 3 and 4 who show excellence in scholarship, interest in the language and culture, as well as a desire for continued study in World Language. A student must meet the academic requirements to be considered for membership to the World Language NHS.

Yearbook

The Yearbook is an all year activity for students. The senior editors, along with the dedicated staff of underclassmen, attempt to capture the memorable moments of the school year and create a lasting treasure. The members of the yearbook staff work diligently to provide a record of the year’s activities and characters. All students are encouraged to become part of this important activity.
