So what's going on at Wood ?
Plans are in place to launch the Alumni Association with a more
autonomous role than the Alumni Council. The basic framework is taking
shape. The Association will have a President, two Vice-Presidents and a
Secretary/Treasurer, each serving a two year term. The Alumni Council
will be replaced by a Board of Representatives. The Development Office
will recruit two representatives from each graduation class for this
Board. The executive duties of the Alumni Council will be shifted to a
sub-committee of the President's Advisory board. The President of the
Association will be an ex-officio member of the President's Board.
The Association will begin with a temporary set of By-Laws, with the
goal of drafting a permanent set within a year.
Responsibilities of the Board of Representatives will include
organizing reunions, updating the database, organizing special events,
electing its four officers and fund raising. A faculty member, who may
also be a graduate of Wood, will be recruited as a liaison to the Board
of Representatives. This school representative will attend each of the
Board's periodic meetings.
To protect the charitable tax deduction, all donations and gifts will
still be made directly to the school. A gift in the name of the Alumni
Association will then be made annually to the school.
