Last call to join a discussion group.  After Monday, June 22nd, the list of books for testing will be the only option for completing your summer reading.  Simply select the book you are interested in, read the book and take the test when directed in September.

Book Discussion members:  If you do not hear from the leader of your Book Discussion by Monday, June 29, please e-mail:  mharkinsabw@yahoo.com.  Some people have not received information due to groups still forming.  Check the e-mail address you submitted for the invitation to the Book Discussion.

Important: Archbishop Wood Summer Reading Program 2009

                                                                                                                May 2009

You have two options to complete the summer reading:

1. Listed below are a number of books under the heading Summer Reading Test. Select one of these books.  Read the book, when you return in September you will take a test on this book.  If you cannot pass the test, you will have the opportunity to read another book and take a test on that book.  This will continue until you pass the test.

2. Select a book from the Summer Book Club list.  Complete the attached form.  The expectation for this book will be that you participate in an online discussion over the summer months.  The discussion leader will set the dates and expectations for completion.  All you need is access to a computer.  You do not have to be home.  To successfully complete this aspect of the summer reading program you must take an active part in the discussion, posting your thoughts and opinions by the required dates.  The discussion leader is looking for your reaction to the book, not specific answers, plot descriptions, or character analysis etc.

Current Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors should have returned their selection to the Principal's Office by June 1.  If you wish to make any changes or you have not made your selection, e-mail this information to mharkinsabw@yahoo.com.

Incoming Freshmen will receive a letter in the mail during the week of June 8.  If you select Summer Book Club, e-mail your book selection and e-mail address to mharkinsabw@yahoo.com by June 22.

                                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                                        Mary Harkins

                                                                                        Principal

I choose:

_______Option one.  I will select a book from the list on the Wood web site and I will take the test in September.

______Option two.  I will take part in the On-line book discussions.  The book I choose

to read is:______________________________________________________________

My e-mail address is:___________________________________________________

The discussion leader will contact you at that e-mail address with directions as to how you can join the group.  If you do not join the group within the time specified, you will be removed from the discussion group.  And you will have to complete option one.

Please note this book must be from the list for Wood Summer Book Club list, which was attached to the letter you received about the Summer Reading Program.  The number of people who can participate in a discussion will be limited.  Also, if only one or two people sign up for a specific book, that book will be removed.  The online discussion will be either a blog, wiki or ning depending on the leaders choice.

AP students must sign up for your AP assignment.  If you are in more than one AP, you only need to list one on this paper.

ALL STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE SUMMER READING.

Return this information in homeroom by Friday, May 27.

EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURES IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER

All students must have their Student ID available for inspection.

Only those students whose school district was called will be permitted to leave, including drivers/passengers and walkers.

We strongly urge all drivers to ride the bus instead of driving to school on those days of possible snow and ice.

When a school district is called, those students taking the bus will report to the auditorium and will be dismissed from there.   Drivers/passengers and walkers will report to the Student Services Office.

Drivers/passengers and walkers reporting to the Student Services Office will sign a sheet of paper with their school district on it and it will be used as their permission slip to leave. The date and time will be stamped along with Mr. Mangin’s signature and it will be given to a teacher or staff member stationed at the doors.

Students will not be permitted to ride with another student unless we have written permission from both sets of parents (driver and passenger).

Your parents should not call the school to ask for a dismissal due to the bad weather, our phone lines need to stay open for emergencies.

Faculty & Staff will be posted at each door to check students’ permission slips as they are leaving.

Your parents should check the web site frequently.

Please refer to page 34 and 35 in the student handbook for further information
