This scholarship honors John. D McKinney, a proud graduate of Archbishop Wood High School and an integral member of the Vikings Wrestling Team. The award continues John's legacy by providing opportunities for future members of the Wrestling Team to achieve their goal of becoming a graduate of Archbishop Wood.

The award for this scholarship is a minimum of $1,000 for the 2025-2026 school year and will be directly applied to the recipient's tuition account.

The recipient of this scholarship will be determined by the McKinney Family and select members of a committee chosen by them.

Students MUST have a completed FACTS application for the 2025-2026 school year

Qualifications:

1. The student must be registered to attend Archbishop Wood and intend on being a member of the wrestling program for the 2024-2025 school year.

2. Prospective applicants must be in good standing in their school community and be able to maintain the passing average to be on the wrestling team.

Despite John's individual accolades, the thing that was the most important to him was "Team". His fondest memories were of the 1989 PCL championship team and the lifelong friendships he made. As an athlete and a coach, John's focus was always "we" not "I". He was the embodiment of a team player.

3. Applicants must submit a one-page essay addressing the following question:
In one page, describe the importance of being on a team, what it teaches you, and how this can be applied to your everyday life. List some characteristics of a good teammate.
