Qualifications:

All registered incoming 9th graders to Archbishop Wood High School are eligible for the Visual Art Scholarship. The award is a $1,200.00 scholarship for tuition aid that is applied directly to tuition charges for the 2024-2025 school year. This scholarship will continue for four years if the student remains in good standing. The Candidate will submit a 200 to 500-word essay with their portfolio to the Review Board.

Please contact the Development Department to schedule the submission of your art portfolio by Friday, January 5, 2024. Portfolio drop-offs can be made as early as the application is submitted. All portfolios must be at Archbishop Wood High School by January 31, 2024

All applicants MUST have a completed FACTS by January 12, 2024.

Requirements:

The Candidate will write a 200 to 500-word essay and include the following:

The Candidate’s experience in art including classes taken in elementary school and extra-curricular classes outside of school
A brief description of the Candidate’s art experience
A brief description of what the process of creating art means to the Candidate
A brief description of how the Candidate will use art in their high school career

Portfolio Requirements:

The Candidate will submit a Portfolio of their original works and the essay as described above
The Candidate and a parent or guardian must sign the statement attesting to the fact that the works are their original creations and made within the last two years
The works may be in any media
The actual works submitted may not exceed 18” X 24”
Works larger than 18” X 24” may be submitted in slide format or a USB key
The works may be matted but not framed. Un-matted works will not be penalized in any way
Photographed works may not be duplicated as actual works
The Candidate must submit at least 10 works, but no more than 20
Works should be representative of the Candidate’s exploration of art and media and their experience with art

Requirements for the continuation of the scholarship:

Maintain an 85 average in all academic subjects
Maintain an 85 average in conduct
Maintain an 85 average in Art Appreciation in his/her sophomore year
Maintain an 85 average in Art I, Art II, or Advanced Placement Art in his/her junior and senior year
Enroll in Art I, Art II, Art III, and Art IV
