Thursday January 2, 2020 - A Bell, Day 2
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Here’s some good news for a Thursday morning!
You’re invited---yes, you---to participate in the 27th Annual Shakespeare Competition here at Wood.
The student who wins the contest here at Wood gets to compete against winners from other schools in the Philadelphia area in another contest in February in Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia-area winner this year will also win an all-expenses weekend at Lincoln Center in New York City to compete against winners from other cities for the grand prize, which is an all-expenses paid 2-week trip to England this coming summer to study acting.
Students who participate will recite from memory, a short passage of lines from a Shakespeare play. So, if Shakespeare is your favorite writer, or if you’ve been waiting for a chance to demonstrate what a fantastic memory you have, or if you love to perform in front of others -- come to a very brief interest and information meeting tomorrow, Friday, during the B bell in the Learning Commons, and you’ll get all the information you need about the Shakespeare Recitation Competition. Once again, that meeting is tomorrow, --Friday-- during the B bell in the Learning Commons -- or see Mr. Velten for more information if you can’t make the meeting. Remember what Shakespeare wrote in Henry the 4th --
“Nothing can seem foul to those that win!”
VikingThon T-shirt design contest
How would you like to design the official VikingThon 2020 T-Shirt?!
This year’s theme will be: SAFARI (the one with animals, not the internet browser).
Submissions can be made to Mrs. Murphy in room 236 or to the Activities Office room 101.
Be sure to include your name and grade on the back of your submission.
Submissions are due no later than TOMORROW! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Happy New Year and Happy Writing!
We’re getting close to the end of the first semester, so if you have a writing assignment that’s due soon, or a college essay you need to finish up and turn-in, why not stop by the Learning Commons during your lunch period to get some help with your writing?
Mr. Velten, a retired ELA teacher, will be in the Learning Commons on Tuesdays and Thursdays to give you the help you need.
So bring that paper or essay in, and get some help to improve your sentences, make your thesis more clear, and brush up those spelling and punctuation problems!
Oh, and one more thing . . . Mr. Velten is also in the Learning Commons every day from 3 to 5 PM. So if you’re waiting for practice to start, or you’re killing time until the late bus comes, or if you just don’t want to go home right away, then stop by for some writing help.
Once again, Tuesdays and Thursdays, periods 3 to 7, and every day from 3 to 5 PM, in the Learning Commons for some writing help.
I love when they drop the ball in Times Square … It's a nice reminder of what I did all year.
