Archbishop Wood's very 1st podcast talks with President Iannarelli about clubs the students can get involved with and students go out and interview club presidents, and moderaters. They also have some fun interviewing teachers and staff about how they think the new school year is going so far.

welcome everybody to the Archbishop Wood knock on wood podcast episode number 1 my name is John annarella of Archbishop Wood and I want to introduce you to the podcast this is a student created student-led podcast this morning we're going to talk about a lot of the fun things that go on at Archbishop Wood and more specific basically the clubs the reason we created this podcast is we wanted to have a forum where we could share with all you all the great and fantastic stuff that happens at Archbishop Wood all the fun we have all the opportunity to these to step up as leaders and all the friendships that we make along the way this morning's podcast I have 3 students with me this morning that I'd like to introduce to you the first student that we have with me to my right is Billy Davis Boy Billy and then to the far left we have Grace Mancini and then last but not least we have Nick James here so what we did for the first podcast is he went around last Friday and and took some videos of all the clubs that we have out there you know within Archbishop Wood so before we show you all the the fun videos and all the good stuff that goes on I wanted to couple questions off these folks up here because they've been around for a while and had a chance to actually experience some of the clubs so the first question I have is for for Billy so Billy when you think back on all the clubs that and all the unities that you had you know with Archbishop Wood so you're a senior right yes sir yeah so you know what's the what's the 1 club that helped you know shape either leadership or provide you know a great opportunity to to build friendships you know what was that for you well 1 club that I've been in all 4 years here has been football okay uh right now I'm captain and I worked very hard to get there and I'm very happy to be elected by my teammates to become captain so I've I've learned a lot of leadership skills from that just from seeing the the guys before me who showed great leadership qualities and you know helped me shape me to be a person I am today yeah no that's great Billy you know Sports you know not only not only is a great opportunity to perform on the field but it's a great opportunity to build you know teamwork and Leadership you know as you're trying to get out there and win the games as well so not surprisingly that the football you know is a really great Club Athletic team to get involved in so that my second question is for Grace at the end here so so Grace is actually new to Archbishop Wood yeah she jumped in right away to be part of the podcast it's doing a great job as you'll see you know with the interviews of the the club moderators and so my question for you is what a voice would you give to new students particularly freshman but also you know students that are transferring in as to all the reasons that you want to get involved in Club um well I think that when you're new and you don't know anybody the most important thing to do is to just don't be like nervous to go up to people and like introduce yourself because it's going to be a lot worse for you if you go through like switching to a new school or starting High School like by yourself so it's very important to know that especially if you're a freshman other people are just as scared as you are like other freshmen are very nervous to be starting at a new school and I I switched here for my junior year so um 1 of the most important things I think I did was go to the transfer student day because I met a lot of other kids there who were just as nervous as I was and another thing I think is very important is to try new clubs because that that's what I did and I ended up being able to meet like a lot of new people and make new friends um so I think that joining new clubs can definitely open like a whole lot of new opportunities for you awesome Grace yeah you know jumping in you know right from the start you know when you come to Wood and get involved in all the the fun activities we have you know we encourage all new students to to take advantage of that so the the last question I have is for for Nick who's sitting to my left here so so Nick you know you're you're a senior right and you've been involved in a lot of you know different clubs you know throughout your your 4 years what what would you say is the the biggest thing that you gain as a student being part of a club and how how based on you know what you have gained how how do you kind of Envision you know utilizing that you know after you graduate and maybe you know go on to whatever you're going to be yeah I think joining is great because when I I joined as many clubs as I could freshman year sophomore year it helped me gain so many friends and helped me meet so many new people and it just helped me throughout my whole High School career like uh meeting new people people it helps you so you know a bunch of people now because I joined like 5 or 6 clubs freshman year and then a few more sophomore year and I'm still in most of them now which really helps me with like I made so many friends throughout like time here at Archbishop Wood yeah Nick that's a that's a great you know example of when you get involved in clubs 1 of the important things you learn later in life is the importance of networking and kind of getting out of your comfort zone and you know reaching out the folks and you know building relationships and working together on fun stuff that you know the overall Club in this case you know can benefit from but you learn the skills of reaching out and working with other people as well so you know great example example why you want to you know jump into a club you know once you come to Wood so at this point we want to you know cut to the video that we uh produce the week or so ago that kind of introduces you to all the existing clubs that we had and then some of the new and exciting ones that are out there so we'll cut to that and then we'll you Billy nice to see you too Mr McCullough thank you have you like the fair so far uh this is so exciting you know because all all the kids are proud to be a members of their club and they're showing off their Club spirit thank you very much you're very welcome today we are here with Mr hello everyone Mr Larry teaches many different subjects would you like to tell us about the subjects you teach of course so I teach AP and honors physics I teach a new course called Earth and space science and I teach engineering so good so far so good what are your goals for this here my goals for this year are just to have successful students learning about science and being excited to learn more I hear that the closing thoughts my closing thoughts are I'm excited for the rest of the year and the great changes that we have from the beginning of the year and over the summer should be awesome for the school uh today we are here with Mr Dunn first week of school going so far so far first full week everybody seems happy things are moving very well it seems that's very good what are your goals for this year just to be able to keep everybody safe here and keep all your smiling faces walking by and saying hello and the sports team do well everybody does well in academics and we all have a great year thank you so much you're more than welcome Hey guys Grace um from the Eva Sadie Bell what are you guys doing oh so we're here for the stage crew stage crew you know because I think people should join it's very fun inclusive you know we're like a family um I do more of the technical aspect so lots of like sound and lights and spotlight I move stuff backstage it's really fun I move stuff with Nia but there's also a lot more opportunities here um especially the new ones hair wigs makeup props how often do you guys meet like the show is about to start where they're like every day but until then like it's like a few times a week okay hi guys it's Grace I am here with I'm I'm Cole tell us about um what this is so this is robotics club and so this is a robot from this year wow so this is a this is a shooter that shoots out PVC pipes onto like a a PVC pipe frame and we have the elevator here that makes the the shooter go up and down and uh in the middle of fixing it then like yeah it's basically our but awesome and how often do you guys meet like 2 or 3 days a week awesome well thank you so much for your time and I'm here with Donna so would you like to tell us a little bit about your Club my child is for anyone with interest in law you're acting um it's super fun no matter where your interests lie or your talents we take everybody who's interested um we meet usually on Fridays after school and we have a ton of performance um lots of fun lots of laughs and we learn a lot about the court awesome once your first meeting hopefully next Friday awesome thank you so much yeah Alissa J so would you guys like to tell us a little bit about your club we are students of Color Club I am Elisa the president of students of color club and I am the treasurer what do you guys um like do for the club so our club is basically just just to help students of color um you know get around school as well and make new friends um we're basically doing this so that we can all come together and just be 1 um so yeah thank you so much thank you so much I'm here with Michael Maguire would you like to tell us a little bit about um what this apparently so warm and stir or what is has a little tremendous amount of history and space History and Science History as well what's this is the joy up and we'll have a meeting and try to figure out how we can work and create a club related science and engineering thank you so much and I'm here with sister Joanne would you mind telling us a little bit about all of the music programs here at wood I'm everything and anything music um we have concert bands string Ensemble I'm looking at the list uh we have jazz band They are all in the same group we have higher uh and we're looking for male members inquire Mr McCormick does the clave drum club and uh there are piano lessons that are offered most of our uh programs are after school and lessons occur during your lunch period thank you so much you are most welcome today we are here with Mr KY what's up hi what are your goals for this school year oh just like living my best life probably try to get a base tan by November feel that um go to like sports things yeah school events make things with shop Club that's a lot of fun you should sign up you learn to make money and not go to college oh great uh and how are you feeling about this first week of school and kind of long like yeah really long happy for it to be over but everyone it's like so nice and happy and lovely and just love all my classes so much thank you so much between hello we are here with the 2607 fighting Robo Vikings and today we're gonna talk to Owen who is a senior on the robotics team he's been here with us for a while say hi hi I'm Owen I'm the captain of a robotics team so there's music playing you can't hear it because these mics cut that out maybe you can okay do you want to ask your question okay um wait this is kind of fire we're gonna go over here can you hold this can I interview you yeah okay do you want to tell us about your program clave drum Club it's a hand drumming it's called clave because that's the name of a rhythm Afro Cuban Rhythm there are several of them the 1 I was just playing goes like this that's clav sign up sign up we got 4 people have to take a little bit of an intermission to go see the drums because there are people but do you want to tell us a little bit about the robotics program and what it is here at the beginning of January uh new game is announced for us to build a robot to complete like about like 2 to 3 tasks thank you um what's your name Jack Price what grade are you in um 12 what are your goals for this school year um to be unemployed not work and to do the least amount of working classes he wants to graduate is there anything else you'd like to say go wackies oh yeah so I'm here with the Esports team what games you guys offer we're offering fortnite Marvel Rivals and Rocket league so if you're nice and any 1 of the 3 or all 3 feel free to sign up though if you're looking for that competitive Spirit to learn new strats learn new skills and everything in between go ahead and sign up this is the real deal we partner with the YMCA but we as a company we are Metro Esports yeah whenever if you're more so of a casual player come on down and check us out during our game Lounge operations and what kind of platforms do you have we uh people will have their own accounts for uh the PCS uh for the computers they have a bunch of the games but we have accounts already hooked up for our Xbox and PlayStations um also at our doors Town location we have flight simulator so if you're looking learn what would be like to be a pilot or just mess around on the sticks uh go ahead and we have the stations for you there over at our doors Town location specifically at our warmest their location though we have the PlayStation we have the Nintendo switch and we have fpc's thank you very much absolutely this is Miss Ellis activities director Miss Ellis how do you feel about this year's Club this is probably the most attended activities Fair we've had in 5 years and we have more clubs than we've had in the last probably probably 3 years pickle ball is the fastest selling sport in America and it's come to Archer ship life Sean and I are going to demonstrate 1 of the very basic skills in pickle ball I was just going to warn you I've never played pickle ball before so this is going to be not great that you can and when you win a point the ball does not end on your side of the court so it must actually bounce 1 time on each side before that he is well off to bounce before it comes to your partner because we're working at a certain interviewing Miss KY about back to school say hi hello how are you enjoying your first week of school I always loved the first week of school and I'm really excited this year because I have a lot of the same students I've taught for 3 years now it's crazy I I really am loving this first week of school what are your goals for this year to pray a lot to make sure that my kids meet Jesus the chapel right we want to make sure that we spend a lot of Chapel time together and that they're adequately prepared for beyond the walls of wood in terms of spirituality I love that thank you so much you're so welcome we're here with Mr Simon back interviewing about back to school house your back to school going so far so far so good no complaints is there any goals for the school year that you have I would like all my students to pass my class that's a good idea thank you so we're back here at the the knot would podcast episode number 1 wow what unbelievable footage we just saw of all the the great clubs that are out there at Archbishop Wood um our co-host that went around interviewing folks awesome job I think get you captured not only the essence of the clubs but the importance and why you want to join the clubs so hopefully you know uh the students were able to kind of see all the different clubs and we encourage you if you haven't signed up for a club yet or you're thinking about you know signing up still time to reach out and get involved and you're going to have a lot of fun you're going to meet a lot of friends and you know develop your leadership skills along the way so that concludes the first podcast but what I want to do is kind of prep you introduce you know the the second podcast is going to be right around the corner so the second podcast we had the opportunity this week to go down to Archbishop uh Carol and join all the the other high schools as as part of the arch diocese and what they call a mascot race competition so we have a new mascot here quote unquote not a new mascot but a new costume of the mascot and and it's a viking and the name of our got is Archie wood so we took Archie wood down to Archbishop Carroll we competed we had a lot of fun and we captured a lot of footage on that so look forward to episode number 2 bringing that to you and continue went to uh to give you what you need for the podcast so that concludes the knock on wood
