Knock on Wood episode #4 Knock on Wood episode #4 Nativity Day highlights Show Transcript welcome to the knock on wood podcast episode number 4 today's episode that we're going to record is our first annual going forward Nativity day it would so the idea it came up to to have a day to start to get some schools here to to see all the excitement and all the different and new stuff that we have to offer at Archbishop Wood so what we decided to do is to start out with Nativity and have their 6 7th and eighth graders actually come to would you know for a full day of fun-filled activities and great learning as well so we have a couple of our roving reporters here with me Billy Davis to my point left and we got Nick over here you know who's uh captured all the the activities during the day and they're going to kind of you know highlight and Report out on on what they saw who they interviewed and all the fun stuff that was going on this is going to be enlightening for me because I actually wasn't here that day because I was actually covering the Nativity golf outing off site so look forward to uh you know seeing it here in all the great stuff that was going on back here at so I guess the the first question you know for Billy um what what was it like having probably 100 students plus here you know from the TV um I lost count you know when I saw him filtering in early in the morning um coming to would you know shadowing with a whole bunch of students you know in different classes and then you know partake in some of the fun-filled activities you know afterwards as well so kind of take us through what happened during the day I mean it was pretty amazing uh a bunch of them just in the gym we when the gym at the end of the day and Archie Archie came out and was throwing t-shirts and stuff it was wonderful so Archie would the new mascot you know another public appearance you know he's not being shy he's getting out there and and welcoming the crowd as they come to would yeah and we uh so as the reporters we went around and we interviewed a bunch of different people in the different classrooms because students and Nativity went to the different classrooms to see different different aspects of Archbishop Wood so they went to get somebody from the ELA Department we had somebody from the health and science department they went to Mr Chandler in the uh social studies department so they bounced around and got to see all the different classrooms that we have so we interviewed them and we interviewed them just asking them what their excited about what they like so far and they were very excited to be out there be around and they're very excited for the upcoming years of Archbishop Wood yes so 1 of the things that I saw before I headed out to the golf outing is it is it look like they had some uh some merch and some uh you know giveaways you know they were coming through the door I saw some like would you know bags on the on their backs saw some shades as they were going through the hallway so but thank you for that like would they get would you see it they got so every student got uh drawstring bag a pair of sunglasses both branded architectural pool and then they ended up they got to bring over bring home whatever they made in class so I know they like some classes you couldn't take anything home like Miss Hart raft they had a bunch of science stuff like dissecting stuff that they were not allowed to take home but they had they drew in the 1 glass they got to they got prizes and others like lollipops and candy and stuff so they ended up going home with some pretty full bags and sunglasses and like what were you thinking and like what do you think they were thinking as they were marching in for that day I mean especially in sixth and seventh grade you just look up to them so much you're like wow they're just so much older and being able to go through the classes and experience it it makes you kind of it puts you in their shoes and makes you as a 6 and seventh grader and to some extent an eighth grader just feel more adult feel like like a big kid you know you get to go out and be I'm in high school right now today I was in high school right so I think it's pretty cool for them to walk around and be a little bit of an adult a little bit yeah I mean it seemed like you know they were they were strutting around like they own the place you know when I saw them before I headed out so so yeah now I get exactly what you're saying all right Mr Nick James here so Nick um after they they went through through the classes right you know they had the little as we typically try to do here we have like a little get together you know kind of picnic you know send off type thing you know talk to me about that like what what do we do you know what were some of the fun-filled you know games and stuff that participated in so I was there during my lunch period it was awesome to see they played all these games and they just had all the spirit and it's like when they're when you're younger you have way more energy and they had fun and they just uh it was just a good time being there it was uh seeing they were all happy they all wanted to be there it seemed so that's what I saw yeah yeah so so 1 of my uh 1 of my themes is you know we're here at Archbishop Wood is you know you can have fun and you can get a great education as well they're not mutually exclusive so so talk to me about the importance of having an atmosphere you know where you're going to learn a whole bunch of stuff but you know we make it fun as well I mean what what does that mean from a a students perspective and and how much more motivating and excited are you to actually learn and to get involved in all the things that would for making it fun yeah I think it's a huge deal having a great atmosphere with the school you go to because I think if you go to a school where you don't have any sort of fun you're just going to be their learning for 9 months and if you're in a school where it incorporates you're having fun and you're getting a great education at the same time it's awesome because you can do whatever you want like you can do what you want you can be with your friends make friends be it can be fun and the activities that you a bunch of fun stuff academically and stuff that isn't academic so yeah so you know I I would imagine you know if if you have an atmosphere where it is fun I mean is it a little bit easier to to make that way you know because you have certain things going on where you're less shy and you're more willing to kind of put yourself out there introduce yourself you know get together with some of the other folks yeah it's easier because it basically is like helps you network with other people like much easier so yeah okay good well you guys will you'll see all the footage that we captured you know from that day so um you know it was very exciting you know all the kids left you wanting to come back you know they were asking hey the next time we come back and we basically told them hey you can come back when you're Rolling Wood and and start here officially so hi I'm Izzy
